Fire and Emergency Services Instructor

Online Coursework: April 6- May 10, 2026   For qualified firefighters who wish to complete their instructor certification with a combination of concentrated class work and online learning.

In Classroom at BGSU: May 11-14  Monday - Thursday  8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Final Test - TBD

Students will be online for 5 weeks and in the classroom 4 full days. You will learn the principles of adult learning, instructional methods, lesson plan development, assessment, and all other components of the ODPS Instructor Course core curriculum.

Special Requirements
Candidates must hold a valid certificate to practice as a firefighter, EMS provider, nurse or physician asst.
In the preceding seven years, has been certified for at least five years as fire, EMS, registered nurse or physician asst.
The online section of this class is flexible, but you must meet assignment deadlines each week.
Must complete NIMS 100, 200 and 700 before final test. 
 
Required Textbook
You must purchase and bring the IFSTA Fire and Emergency Services Instructor (9th edition - 2019). Publisher: Fire Protection Publications.
Workbook is optional, but recommended. Students will have access to all quizzes and tests through IFSTA ResourceOne online course.
