Description
Fire Officer II is designed for current, acting, and aspiring company officers who have completed Fire Officer I. The course meets or exceeds the instructional requirements of NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications at the Managing Fire Officer Level. In this course, students will discuss current trends and issues that affect the mid-level officer including budgeting, employee - development, discipline, evaluation and motivation, succession planning, communication, and the managing officer’s role in training, prevention, investigation, and community outreach. The course is taught in an open discussion format that requires student engagement and learning through practical scenarios and activities. Students are required to read “ Fire Officer Principals and Practice,” Enhanced Third Edition by Michael J. Ward, published by Jones and Bartlett.
Special Requirements
Candidates must have completed Fire Officer 1, must hold a valid certificate to practice as a firefighter issued under section 4765.55 of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) or equivalent.
