Fire and Emergency Services Instructor – NEW Format
Online Coursework: April 7- May 11, 2025 For qualified firefighters who wish to complete their instructor certification with a combination of concentrated class work and online learning.
In Classroom at BGSU: May 12-15 Monday - Thursday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Final Test - TBD
Students will be online for 5 weeks and in the classroom 4 full days. You will learn the principles of adult learning, instructional methods, lesson plan development, assessment, and all other components of the ODPS Instructor Course core curriculum.
**A separate NFPA 1403 course will be added at a later date for certified instructors who will teach live fire evolutions.
Special Requirements
Candidates must hold a valid certificate to practice as a firefighter, EMS provider, nurse or physician asst.
In the preceding seven years, has been certified for at least five years as fire, EMS, registered nurse or physician asst.
The online section of this class is flexible, but you must meet assignment deadlines each week.

You must purchase and bring the IFSTA Fire and Emergency Services Instructor (9
th edition - 2019). Publisher: Fire Protection Publications.
Self-study guide is optional, but recommended.
